An Ordination Sermon (1806), The Writings of Elder John Leland p.310 (1845)
[TO CORNELIUS, PETER] GAVE a detail of important facts
and doctrines, in the most simple manner, in which we discover
the following truths:... That the miracles, precepts and examples
of Christ were incompetent to save men. That without the shedding
of his blood there could be no remission. That the Jews
contrived his death—slew him and hanged him on a tree; they
meant it for evil, but God meant it for good. That he died both
as a martyr and Mediator. |
