OUR TRIALS IN THIS LIFE are very numerous. God’s people
are continually, almost, in trouble, and it should be so according
to his word. The saint’s life is evidently a warfare. If you
remember, the land of Canaan was not freed entirely of the enemy
of the Israelites, the type of God’s spiritual people. The
Lord said to Joshua, “Slay them not, lest my people forget.” So
today God’s true and tried people rightfully have a thorn in the
flesh—they are beset with many troubles and trials, each one
having his own peculiar trouble; but if he is a saint it is truly for
his own good. My distresses keep me constantly trying to pray
to God for deliverance. |
