BUT, IF IN HIS INQUIRIES AND CONSIDERING, he cannot
understand why it is that he is afflicted; cannot trace it back
as a chastisement for his misconduct in any way, then he is
brought to submit to a wise dispensation of God’s providence
towards him, for some good purpose known unto the Lord.
So, whether, in his feelings, the Christian decides that his
affliction or trial is a chastisement, or not, he is brought to be
resigned to it in a great measure; is, at least, brought to patiently
endure it without murmuring against God, or charging
God foolishly. |
