"Have We The Evidences?" The Primitive Baptist (1881)"

WHAT ARE THE EVIDENCES that we have an ear to hear what the Spirit saith? Some of the evidences are that we have an inward spiritual thirsting after righteousness. Not human righteousness, nor the righteousness that consists in conforming to the letter of the law, nor even the letter of the gospel, but that righteousness which is of God by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. A righteousness which will freely justify us in the sight of God that we may stand acquitted before Him as pure and innocent without “spot or wrinkle or any such thing.” Those who have this inward thirsting after God see their need of this righteousness because of the feeling sense they daily have of their own carnal, vile and polluted nature. They see in themselves nothing but sin and folly. “In this earthly tabernacle they groan, being burdened, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with their house, which is from heaven.” |
